Koryn Jozwiakowski
Class of 2021
MS-MPE Student
Pitt Track & Field D1 Athlete
My name is Koryn Jozwiakowski, and I am a Track & Field Student-Athlete at the University of Pittsburgh working within the MS-MPE program. I graduated from Purdue University in 2020 with my bachelor's degree in Genetics. My career goal is to work in industry that focuses on orthopedic devices and biomaterials, and to eventually become a leader within the company that I land at.
Racing Towards a Bioengineering Career
When looking for graduate programs that I wanted to apply to and be a part of, I took a lot into consideration. To name a few: Professor-Student relationships, school and program reputation, and career outlook upon graduation. The University of Pittsburgh’s MS-MPE program had checked all three of those boxes in a rather positive way. What really stood out regarding this program was the hands-on aspect. Even with online learning becoming the new normal, the professors in the program still find a way to give us relevant hands-on experiences. Whether that’s through using household materials for prototyping, or using online resources to interact and collaborate with team members, the program as a whole has done a very good job at adapting to our changing world. So for me, it was a fairly easy decision to pick Pitt after going through my list and seeing which schools would best suit me.

Through my undergraduate at Purdue University, I had a lot of experience working with engineering design teams and engineering projects, and thoroughly enjoyed working within those roles and projects. However, I was not an engineering major; instead I was in the Genetics program. Luckily for me, Purdue cultivated an environment that promoted innovation and creativity no matter what your major was, and I believe this is the reason why I was set up to move forward with an engineering masters program at Pitt.

"Through this program, I am hoping to build upon my skill set that I have developed through my undergrad work as well as acquire invaluable skills that I have not yet discovered myself"
Through this program, I am hoping to build upon my skill set that I have developed through my undergrad work as well as acquire invaluable skills that I have not yet discovered myself. I am confident that this program will provide me with the skills I need in order to make a big impression in the working environment as an engineer. I look forward to learning all about the design process, and getting the chance to work with my fellow classmates, professors, clinical mentors, and industry partners.
Post graduation, I would like to go into industry working with orthopedics or even biomaterials. Research is one of my strong suits, and this program focuses a lot on development of products, so I would like to get into an R&D position in the future. I am confident that the MS-MPE program will set me up for success in my future, as well as allow me to make connections with my fellow students, professors, and clinical mentors throughout the process.
